Drivers targetted on A259

Officers from the Sussex Road Policing Unit carried out Operation Crackdown on the A259 in East Sussex between April 29th and May 12th.

Officers targeted drivers who committed road traffic offences or chose to drive in an anti-social manner, some of which had been reported on the Operation Crackdown website - www.operationcrackdown.org. The A259 was targeted because it has a high incident rate of injury collisions along much of its route.

Nearly 400 offences were detected during the two week period and dealt with proactively. These included:Arrests made for 2 drink drive offences and 1 disqualified driver. 2 arrested for TDA (taking and driving away. Over 320 offences were prosecuted by fixed penalty or summons for a variety of offences including excess speed, mobile phone use, no seatbelt and document offences and 33 vehicles were seized because the driver was either unlicensed or uninsured.
